20 New Year’s Resolutions For 20-Somethings

JAN. 2, 2012
 1. Before you status update, Tweet, Tumble or Instagram, pause and say to yourself, “is it entirely necessary that I share this morsel of thought with my entire social network?”and if the answer is not, “yes, I absolutely must,” then step away from the Internet.
 2. Know which candidate you’re going to vote for in the upcoming presidential election, and know why.
 3. Enough with the 14-day juice cleanses. If you want to lose a little weight quickly, eat less and exercise like crazy. If you want to lose a lot of weight slowly, do whatever Jennifer Hudson did.
 4. If you really like the person you’re hooking up with and would like them to be your boyfriend/ girlfriend, find a way to tell them, and hope for the best. If you don’t and wouldn’t, stop.
 5. Find a way to save approximately 300 dollars and spend it on a flight to see a friend or family member who lives far away.
 6. Please stop liking the Kardashians, all of them. It’s not helping anyone, least of all the Kardashians.
 7. Spend less than or equal to the money you earn each month.
 8. Wear clothes that fit you, especially to work.
 9. Call someone on the phone at least once a week, and speak to him or her for at least ten minutes.
 10. Start preparing now to get over the fact that Facebook is probably going to change again in six months. You’re not going to deactivate your account. You don’t know how.
 11. Wait 30 seconds before you look up a fact you can’t remember on your phone, and try to remember it using your brain. This is what the olden days were like.
 12. Replace one terrible reality show you’re currently watching with one wonderful scripted show currently available on television. Swap suggestion: Real Housewives of Anywhere for HBO’s Enlightened.
 13. Try that food you think you don’t like but have never actually tried, unless it’s brussels sprouts. They really don’t need any more attention.
 14. Cut one person out of your life who you truly do not like and add one person who you truly do. Note: not on Facebook, on Earth.
 15. If you’re still blacking out regularly, you should stop.
 16. Volunteer once over the next 90 days. You’ll feel really good about it, and probably end up volunteering again over the next 275.
 17. Tell someone who you love that you love them on a more regular basis. To their face, not in a text.
 18. Back up your entire online life onto an external hard drive, especially your photos.
 19. Crap or get off the pot. This applies to whatever thing you’re not doing that you should just sack up and do already.
 20. And in the eternal words of Tom Haverford, “TREAT YO SELF!”

Happy 2012 everyone! TC mark

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin

As I look back and reflect on 2011, in hindsight, A LOT has happened but in the moment I feel like this year went by in a heartbeat. This was probably the most I have grown in single a year. The year started in the lowest of lows but contiuosly grew into something beautiful. It all started with me moving back to a city that I loved, but it was different, friends were no longer friends, the comfort that I had here before, was gone and i had never been so lost at home and the lowest, I lost a great a friend on my Birthday weekend. BUT through it all, I gained an appreciation for life, I realized who my true friends were and I learned that this city has so much more to offer then just crazy parties. I made more friends than I could have ever imagined and can finally truly call Austin home (for now).

I am thankful for my health, my employment, my happiness and most importantly my family and friends. I am thankful for Kickball and all the amazing people I have met through this school yard game. I am thankful for ACL Live and the family that I have made there and all of the freakin amazing shows I have gotten to seen this year, I mean, I get to ring in the New YEar with Willie Nelson, NBD! I am thankful for MediaTech, my wonderful coworkers and the students that make me laugh on a daily basis. I am thankful for my parents and their constant support and always being my number one fans. I am thankful for my brothers and the amazing friendship that we have. I am thankful for my beautiful big sister, whom I strive to be like and my niece and nephew that light up on Skype when they see their Auntie J. I am thankful for my passion for music and the constant opportunity to share my music with others. I am thankful for my awesome roommate who has made life in Austin a million times better. I am thankful for this beautiful city that I live in and the skyline that I see every morning on my drive to work, Austin, you are my muse. I am thankful for the numerous opportunities that I see for 2012, new lifelong friendships, new business opportunities, new memories, new fun to be had!!!

to everyone, I am thankful for knowing each and everyone of you, you make this life what it is! Happy New Year to all.

all in love, J

Ohh yeah!!!

The Balcony can be used for more then just Tragic Shakespearean Love Stories?!…

After Having the amazing opportunity to check out this non profit last night, Balcony TV(http://www.balconytv.com/austin), I thought more about what a great concept…hey, lets promote not only new indie artists but the beautiful city that they flourish from. I will be attending these intimate tapings starting next week, interviewing the bands that are performing and giving you, the “All is Fair..” reader, the scoop. I am looking forward to meeting these artists and I hope that it inspires me to write more music, perform more often and spread the word on independent music <3

Stay Tuned

The Loss of someone can Lead to Inspiration

After losing a close friend to suicide, one can only hope to take positivity away from such a tragic situation. “We can see that Stewart’s suicide has actually helped galvanize the people around him, and there’s a suggestion that it could – just possibly – lead to some of them becoming more of what they want to be.” This quote from the band, made me think and realize that since February, I have seen the light in the sitution and made the decision to be more positive then I was before, see the positive in the day and in the people around me. I see him everyday in the beauty that surrounds me in Austin and can hope that everyone else who was affected can say the same <3

Conversations…

I have to say I have had some interesting conversations over the past week and I have realized that my sense of humor is that of a 12 year old and I LOVE IT! but seriously laughing on the phone with my brother Shawn is the BEST! I was mentioning that it was like 100 degrees at 11p last night when I took the trash out and I was sweating my boobs off and his response was “who is my sister?” , granted this was following a conversation about doodoo, yeah doodoo!! && I could not stop laughing at how funny I thought I was. I say, if you don’t think you’re funny, then who is going to?! They don’t call me J Weezy for nothing, I always be Weezin!

Just a quick thought for your Tuesday—I Iive the Toys R Us life, I don’t want to grow up..

These are a few of my fav-o-rite things!!
I found this awesome website where you can make uber fun collages (http://www.photovisi.com/), so I decided I would think of the things in this world that truly are my favorite, other then my family and friends of course! and I believe This exercise is a killer way to realize and discover the things in your life that make you the happiest, so I suggest you collage your life too!—so what I concluded from this grade school activity, is that I am pretty much a dork but a hip dork, #duh… speaking of Hash-tags, If you were wondering if that is a hash-tag back there, you would be correct. Ever since I discovered this fun little whatchamacallit, i’ve been hash-taggin from “London to the Bay” (name that tune). Some people think it’s overused but I think it’s under appreciated and this is the point where I would pull one #hashtagsgetnorespect..anyways, look for my book hitting the shelves, Sping 2012, “#hastaggingmywaytothetop: Memoirs of a Hash-tag Addict.”
So back to me being a dork, Nothing makes the “faking sick” kid inside of me happier then sitting at home and watching The Price is Right. Bob Barker was the Bees Knees but, to me, it’s the crazy folks on there that make me LOL every time! I also can’t get enough of Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Cash Cab..yep.dadadadaDORK!
Then there’s the artist in me. I don’t know what I would do without music(period). I’m not a fan of silence *cue music*, I always studied with music, I fall asleep to music and I breathe it. There’s not a day that I don’t pick up my guitar, a day that I don’t have a song stuck in my head or a day that I don’t catch myself singing like Mariah in my car. Which segways into my love for Broadway and Dance. I danced for 14 years, have been going to shows since I was 7 & have had the pleasure of seeing 50 plus shows #thanksmom!
Thne there is the normal, fun, Austinite in me… my ideal day would consist of an endorphin releasing ZUmba class, followed by a relaxing bubble bath whilst reading up on the latest fashion trends & make up tips. Then hit the outside Austin Patio for a local brew, some delicious tacos and live music to complete the set. Of course there are so many interchangeable factors in this equation, i.e. Throw in some kickball, a day on the river/lake, a bar crawl on 6th/Rainey Street/East Side and end at a show at Stubbs, OH & go ahead and throw some country in there..i’m a sucker for some 2-step and a pair of perfectly torn & tattered cowboy boots. Giddy Up!
There are also other items thrown in the mix. Conan O’Brien being one; I LOVE him, if someone can make me spray my drink, Save by The Bell style, it’s this tall, pail and Irish Funny man. So what I’m trying to say is, if you can make me laugh, you can steal me heart <3 There is also London, a place that will forever hold a spot in my soul, mainly for the passion it gave me for travel and new friends. and OF COURSE there is Americas Favorite Pastime, Pretty sure Baseball, a pretzel in one hand and a beer in the other, may be one of my fav 3 musketeers.. OH and My MAC is my WORLD…so plainly and simply stated… I keep it simple but I know what I like…but don’t get me wrong, I am all about trying new things, learning new things and continuously adding to my life collage. So I say, think of your favorite things, make a collage and look at it daily to remind you of the little things in life that keep you smiling, and do at least one of those things that day!

So You’re Telling me I Should Be a Truck a Driver

After reading this article(Should I go back to school?) it made me question my choices in study. Let’s just say that I’m quite the dreamer, but what else is new, I was raised by dreamers/doers and my siblings are also dreamers/doers, so I had to follow suit, right?!?.so when the age old question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” was asked, it was usually followed with Music Producer, Singer/Songwriter or CEO of my own company && I’m pretty sure Hair Stylist, make-up artist and fashion designer were thrown in the mix too.NOT truck driver, power line worker or Biotechnologist (not a word; I know)—then..

flash forward to my mid-20’s, 2011, year of crisis (According to Washington)..

Maybe it’s just me, or maybe I just know way too many successful people but why do I feel like I am at a standstill in this job search. I am not going to lie, I haven’t been to Church since I was back In Florida, and more or less just practice being a good person, but I have been praying every night for a miracle. I am an educated, intelligent, well-rounded person but just can’t seem to win. BUT, through it all, I am optimistic because I know that things could be SO much worse, I don’t have a family to take care of, I have a roof over my head, have people who love me, live in one of the best cities in the world and most importantly ,know that there is something positve on the horizon. I will have a positive job front update for you in the near future, this I know! sooo, Until then I will remain positive and continue with my dreaming, because this my only chance to dream, this life, right now, and I say you do the same!
